John Muir Trail

July 27 – August 8, 2015

jmt08-4An epic, 13-day, 212-mile adventure from Tuolumne Meadows through the Sierra Mountains to Mt Whitney in which Carlos and I encountered countless ice-cold streams and creeks, dozens of crystal clear alpine lakes, rushing waterfalls, high mountain passes, wooded valleys, expansive meadows, rugged lunar landscapes, a menagerie of Sierra wildlife, warm days, cold nights, blue skies, grey clouds, wildfire smoke, driving rain, battering hail, threatening lightning, whirling snowfall, incredible vistas, a serene sunrise from the tallest peak in the lower 48, and incredible memories to last a lifetime.

JMT Day 12 – South of Forester to .5 mile past Guitar Lake

⇽ day 11  •  JMT home  •  day 13 ⇾

Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.
